Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you enjoyed a restful and meaningful Easter break, with time to connect with family and friends.

Term 2 is a vital period in the academic year, offering students the opportunity to consolidate their learning and demonstrate their understanding across their courses in preparation for Semester One reports. We encourage all students to aim high as they strive for their personal best. This commitment extends beyond academic achievement to being their best selves in their relationships with peers and staff, and in their spiritual growth.

In this context, we are reminded of the ideas explored in Christian Excellence: Life Beyond Achievement Addiction by Ms Justine Toh, Senior Research Fellow, which invites us to view excellence not merely as performance, but as a deeper expression of character, purpose and faith. This perspective underpins our approach as we support students to engage fully and meaningfully in their learning and in life within and outside of the School.

We are confident in the focus, resilience and commitment our students will bring to the term ahead, making the most of the learning opportunities available to them.

Dear Year 9 Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to Term Two. I hope you all had a wonderful break and are refreshed and ready for the term ahead.

Hopefully students have settled into Senior School and are developing positive routines with regards to school work and homework. There are a number of sporting activities this term and I encourage the students to check the school notices for CAS trials and other opportunities available to them. Please ensure you continue to keep on top of the communication from the school so that you and your child are prepared for the term ahead.

Term 1 was all about settling into the rhythm of the year and establishing foundational routines. As we move into Term 2, we will focus on keeping the routines and working on students’ resilience and independence in their subjects. Year 9 is a significant year in a student’s journey; it is often the time when they begin to truly define their interests and develop the "grit" required for the senior years of schooling. Students are encouraged to work consistently and regularly, with regular breaks, to avoid burn out.

It is also a time for many to start exploring (or pushing) some of their boundaries in a safe environment. Term 2 is also the time for an increase in sickness so please encourage your child to eat well and rest well.

What to Expect this Term

• Academic Focus: We encourage students to stay on top of their homework and reach out to their teachers early if they feel they are falling behind or need help.
• Winter Transition: As the weather begins to cool, a reminder that we officially transition into the Full Winter Uniform in Week 3. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child is dressed correctly and ready for the day. The blazer can be washed in the washing machine on a cold, gentle cycle with wool wash and drip dried (much cheaper than dry cleaning).
• An increase in sickness in the cooler months: maintaining a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition, exercise, and sufficient sleep is vital for optimal cognitive function and stress management.

We are also mindful of the busy schedules many of our Year 9s keep—between sports, arts, and perhaps part-time jobs, they are learning the art of the "juggle." Our goal is to work with you to ensure they feel supported rather than overwhelmed.

Dear Year 10 Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 2. I hope you and your family enjoyed a restful break, and that the students are returning refreshed and ready for the term ahead. Term 2 is an important period for Year 10 students, with a strong focus on wellbeing, pathway planning, and academic preparation for Years 11 and 12.

Pathway Planning and Career Development

Throughout Term 2, we continue to support students in exploring future pathways beyond Year 10. This includes opportunities to learn more about subject selection, senior school expectations, and potential career directions. Students will take part in subject talks and career-focused activities designed to help them make informed choices.

Highlighted events this term include upcoming Careers Expos, which provide valuable exposure to tertiary institutions, training providers, and industry pathways. We strongly encourage students to engage actively with these opportunities and discuss ideas and questions at home.

Flourish Program

The Flourish Program will continue throughout Term 2 with a strong focus on student wellbeing. Sessions are designed to build resilience, positive relationships, emotional regulation, and help students develop strategies to manage stress—particularly important as assessment and exam periods approach. Supporting the wellbeing of our students remains a priority, and Flourish plays an important role in this.

Year 10 Exams

Year 10 examinations will take place later this term and serve as an important preparation for senior secondary assessment. Developing effective study habits, revision routines, and time-management skills at this stage is essential.

We encourage parents and carers to support students by:

• Encouraging regular and structured revision
• Helping students balance study with rest and wellbeing
• Discussing exam preparation strategies and progress

Further information regarding the exams will be shared closer to the exam period.

Keys 4 Life

Keys for Life is a Western Australian pre‑driver education program that prepares students for safe and responsible driving. This term, Year 10 students will complete the program, which focuses on understanding the learner driver process, road safety, risk awareness, and making responsible choices before learning to drive.

Term 2 is an important time for our Year 11 students as they continue to work hard and achieve success in their chosen pathway. It is a time when they will need to remain focused and dedicated to their studies, as well as taking advantage of the many opportunities available to them at school. As we dive into exam preparations, it's important to acknowledge the inevitable stress that comes with it. Managing study stress is crucial for maintaining focus and productivity. It's essential to develop a well-structured study plan, breaking down material into manageable chunks and scheduling regular breaks to avoid burnout. Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition, exercise, and sufficient sleep is vital for optimal cognitive function and stress management. Seeking support from teachers can also provide valuable guidance and encouragement during challenging times. Remember, while exams may be stressful, with proper preparation and self-care, you can navigate through them successfully.

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 12 Students,

Welcome to Term 2

I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all our Year 12 families as we begin what is a busy term in your child’s final year of schooling. I hope the break provided a chance for some rest and reflection ahead of what will be a highly focused and demanding period.

Term 2 is an important time for consolidating learning and preparing for key academic milestones. Students will be engaging with examinations and Externally Set Tasks (ESTs) in various subjects, which form a crucial part of their final assessments. It is vital that students are attending regularly, managing their time effectively, and seeking help when needed. Teachers will continue to offer targeted support and revision opportunities during and outside of class.

For students undertaking work placement as part of their VET or general pathway, Term 2 brings the opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience. We are proud of the professionalism and maturity shown by many of our students in these placements, and we thank families for your support in ensuring students are well-prepared and punctual for these commitments.

A few reminders for this term:

• Uniform Expectations: All students are expected to wear the full, correct winter school uniform each day. This reflects pride in our school community and helps maintain a focused learning environment. Students can wear their Leavers Jacket every day, except for Monday as we attend Chapel. Students are to wear their Blazer on a Monday.
• Punctuality to PCG : We’ve noticed an increase in lateness to PCG especially as students start driving themselves to school. These morning sessions are an essential part of our pastoral program and allow for important announcements and support. Please encourage your child to arrive on time and ready to begin the day. If students are late to PCG more than three times in a term they will be required to attend an afterschool detention.
• Wellbeing & Balance: As pressures increase, so does the importance of maintaining healthy routines, rest, and open communication. Our Wellbeing Team and Year 12 staff are available to provide support at any time.

Under WA road safety laws, only individuals aged 16+ can use eRideables or eBikes with the motor engaged.

To manage safety and ensure road safety laws are followed, from the start of Term 1 of 2026 (2 February), eRideables and eBikes will not be permitted on school grounds by students under 16 years old.

The beginning of Term 2 means students are required to wear the winter uniform.

Secondary School

• Two-week grace period: Secondary students have a two-week transition period to switch to the winter uniform. This means either Winter or Summer - not a mixture of both.
• GIRLS - Stockings are optional: If stockings are not worn, students may wear blue ankle socks instead. Girls’ skirts must touch at least the top part of the knee when standing upright. The uniform is designed to be loosely fitting.
• BOYS - Black belts are compulsory when worn with the winter formal pants. Pants should fit appropriately and be worn correctly. Oversized pants are not acceptable.

All Students

• Hats are compulsory all year round and must be worn when in the sun. “No hat, play in the shade.”
• Ensure uniforms are neat and comply with school uniform standards. School uniform standards and further dress codes regarding shoes, hair, makeup and jewellery are available on pages 14 and 15 of the Uniform Handbook.

To ensure the safety and security of all students and staff, we ask all parents and carers to follow the procedures below when visiting the school site.

Signing In

• All parents must report to Parent Reception upon arrival.
• Parents must sign in at Parent Reception before entering the school grounds for any appointment or visit.
• A visitor name badge will be issued and must be worn at all times while on site.
• Visitors must sign out at Parent Reception before leaving.

These procedures help us maintain a secure and well-managed environment for everyone in our community.

Dropping Off Items

• All items for Middle School and Senior School students must be dropped off at Parent Reception.
• Students will be contacted to collect their belongings during the school day.
• Parents are not permitted to go to Middle School Reception or Senior School Reception. These areas are designated for student use only.

We appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines and thank you for helping us maintain a safe and orderly school environment.

There are a number of Kiss ‘n Drive drop-off points around the School, including Whitfords Avenue entrance (Gate 4), Early Learning Centre (via Gate 3), Eastern Access Road (via Gate 3) and outside the Performing Arts Complex (via Gate 3 or Gate 2). There is an additional Kiss ‘n Drive bay on St Marks Drive (travelling east to west).

To ensure the safety of all pedestrians, please ensure you adhere to the following:

• Kiss ‘n Drive bays are strictly ‘no parking’ areas whether or not you are in your vehicle.
• Students must exit from the passenger-side doors as quickly as possible.
• Students must use the designated crosswalks located at each Kiss ‘n Drive within the School grounds.
• Do not overtake vehicles who are ahead of you in the Kiss ‘n Drive queue.
• Please be patient, drive slowly and be aware of other road users.
• At pick-up time, If your child is not at the Kiss ‘n Drive when you arrive, please follow the Traffic Warden’s directions and move forward to rejoin the queue.
• For parents with children in Years 6-12, we kindly ask that you refrain from joining the Kiss 'n Drive queue too early. Doing so blocks access for Primary traffic to the drive-thru area. We have staggered end-of-day times across the campus to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

If your child will be absent, arrive late, or need to leave early, please notify the School with a reason for the absence via the St Mark’s App, SEQTA Engage, or by emailing absentee@stmarks.wa.edu.au. This applies to all year groups; notifications sent to other email addresses may not be received.

When emailing, please include your child’s first name, surname, and class/year level in the subject line.

Absences of three or more consecutive days require a medical certificate. Requests for extended leave or holidays during the school term must be submitted in writing to principal@stmarks.wa.edu.au for consideration.

The School Based Immunisation Program is run by the Child and Adolescent Community Health Team. Throughout the 2026 school year the program will be providing the following immunisations at St Mark's:

• Year 10 - Tuesday 28 April 2026 :
  • Meningococcal ACWY vaccine

• Year 7 - Monday 21 September 2026:
  • HPV (human papilloma virus)
  • dTpa (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis)

All students require parent/guardian consent before they receive any vaccinations at school.

Medication at School

If your child requires medication to be administered during school hours, the medication needs to be dropped into the Health Centre. Parents are required to complete the Health Centre documentation in order for staff to administer the medication. All medication must be in its original packaging with a pharmacy label and clearly labelled.

Medication Expiry Dates

Please ensure that you keep a record (and set a reminder) for the expiry date of all medication supplied to the school, including Epipens and Ventolin carried by older students. Please contact the Health Centre on 9403 1331 if you are unsure of the expiry date for medication held at School.

Medical Action Plans

It is recommended that Medical Action Plans are reviewed every 12 months and should be no more than 2 years old. If your child has a new or updated Medical Action Plan, please email the updated plan to nurse@stmarks.wa.edu.au.

St Mark’s is proud to present the 2026 Music Certificate Showcase featuring our Year 11 and 12 Certificate bands.

The Parents Prayer Group (PPG) meet fortnightly to pray for the students, staff and school community.
