A message from the Acting Head of Primary School
Dear Parents and Carers
The Value of School Camp: Learning Beyond the Classroom
Term 4 has many big events taking place from our term opening Year 12 Graduation Walk of Honour, right through to key culmination events of Year 5 Graduation, our Final Celebration Assembly and the Community Christmas Carols event. Term 4 is also an important time for our camp program with our Year 5 students already completing their camp to Point Peron and our Year 4 students awaiting their turn next week at Camp Kerem.
For many children, school camp is one of the most memorable experiences of their primary years, and for good reason. Camp offers students a chance to step outside their usual routines and discover new skills, friendships, and confidence in a supportive environment.
At camp, children learn to be independent and responsible, whether it’s packing their own bag, helping with a group meal, or keeping track of their belongings. These small but important moments build resilience and self-reliance.
Camp also strengthens relationships. Away from the classroom, students see their peers and teachers in a different light — laughing together over dinner, working as a team in a challenge course, or supporting each other through a new experience. These shared adventures help develop empathy, cooperation and trust.
For many students, school camp is where they discover what they’re capable of — climbing a rock wall they thought was impossible, speaking up in a group, or simply sleeping away from home for the first time. These moments of growth stay with them long after they return.
Our Primary School camps are just the start of a terrific camp program that extends into Senior School. Across our school, we see camp as an essential part of our learning program — one that builds character, community and confidence.
Kind regards
Mark Pressley
