Junior School Bulletin - Term 4, Week 1

Dear Parents and Carers

A warm welcome back for Term 4. Listening to the students, I have heard exciting stories of adventures both here in Western Australia and abroad. We certainly have a well travelled student body! Nevertheless, I am sure all students were happy to get back to school and see their friends and classmates yesterday.

Routines play a huge role in making the school term successful so I would ask all families to look at the start and end of day procedures and try to enable consistency for the students. It is Term 4 and the students are now older and ready to embrace more responsibilities; tasks such as emptying school bags at the end of the day or making sure the lunch box ice bricks are placed in the freezer each evening are examples of small things the children can be responsible for.

Thank you for supporting our school dress code with uniforms, jewellery and hair. Staff, students and parents often feel uncomfortable when spoken to about these compliance issues. We are very proud of our students and their appearance so if in doubt, please check before approving that latest trend hair cut.

With Year 5 camp starting next week, it will be another very busy term of learning and fun.

There’s something special about seeing creativity come to life — the imagination, the stories, and the hours of dedication behind every brushstroke, sculpture, or performance. On Friday 17 October 2025, St Mark’s will be buzzing with colour, sound, and energy as students across the school showcase their talents in the annual Arts Trail and Year 11 & 12 Art Exhibition.

Year 11 & 12 Art Exhibition

Step into the Alan Cadby Senior Academic Centre Staffroom between 4pm and 6pm for the official Opening Night of the Year 11 & 12 Art Exhibition. It’s a stunning display of senior students’ visual art projects — from bold paintings and intricate drawings to striking mixed-media and sculpture works.

You’ll also be treated to live music, adding an extra layer of atmosphere as you explore the creativity and craftsmanship of our emerging artists.

Couldn’t make it on Friday? Don’t worry — the exhibition will remain open from Friday 17 October through to Tuesday 21 October, 8am – 4pm daily, so there’s plenty of time to drop by and soak it all in.

The Arts Trail

The Year 11 & 12 exhibition is just one stop on the broader Arts Trail, a celebration of creativity that winds through several locations on campus:

• Year 8–10 Sculpture Exhibition (Busselton Building, 4–6pm)
  Discover imaginative and thought-provoking 3D works by our younger artists.

• Short Film Screenings (SAC bottom floor, 5–5.25pm)
  Enjoy a mini film festival featuring student-directed short films — a perfect blend of storytelling and technical skill.

• Dance and Drama Performances (Marnjamoortup (Quad), 5.30–6pm)
  The afternoon wraps up with live performances that will leave you inspired and energised.

From visual art to performance, every part of the Arts Trail is a testament to the creativity thriving within our St Mark’s community.

Whether you’re a parent, friend, alumni, or art enthusiast, come along and celebrate the incredible talent of our students. Bring your curiosity, your appreciation for the arts, and perhaps a friend or two — this is a night where creativity takes centre stage.

This year, our amazing Year 10 students Lily and Emily are stepping up to take part in the Cancer Council’s Relay For Life.

With passion and determination, they’re walking (and running!) to raise vital funds that will support those in our community impacted by cancer. Way to go girls!

At St Mark’s, we value the voices of our whole community. Your experiences, insights and perspectives play a vital role in shaping the future direction of our school, and we are committed to listening carefully to what you have to share.

To support this, we have partnered with independent research agency McCrindle to conduct our upcoming community survey. The survey is designed to be quick and convenient, taking around 10 minutes to complete on any device. It will open on Monday, 20 October, and remain available until Monday, 3 November 2025.

Respecting your privacy is central to this process. St Mark’s will distribute the survey link directly to parents/carers, students and staff. No personal information will be shared with McCrindle, and all responses will remain anonymous.

We encourage all parents/carers, staff and students (Years 6 – 12) to participate in the survey. Your input will provide valuable insights into the St Mark’s experience, and your feedback will guide thoughtful, informed decisions that reflect the shared needs and aspirations of everyone at St Mark’s.

The Parents Prayer Group (PPG) meet fortnightly to pray for the students, staff and school community.

We will be meeting every second Friday 2pm in the School Chapel. We will be meeting on Friday 24/10, 7/11, 21/11, and 5/1. Please sign in at reception. All are welcome.
