Week 2 Message
Before I share some of the exciting things happening this term, I'd like to start with a few reflections from my first weeks at St Mark's. One of the advantages of being new is that you're still noticing everything. As I've been getting to know the school, the people and the rhythms of daily life, it's often the small moments that have left the biggest impression.
As I've settled into St Mark's, many people have asked me the same question: "What are your first impressions?"
The honest answer is that what I've found has been incredibly encouraging.
I've been struck by how much care exists within this community.
I should also say how much I've appreciated the welcome from our students. Every day there are smiles, waves, hellos and the occasional high five as I make my way around the school. It has been one of the highlights of my first few weeks. Children have a wonderful way of making people feel welcome, and their warmth, openness and enthusiasm have certainly helped me feel at home.
I've seen classrooms full of engaged learners, but more than that, I've noticed the way people interact with one another. I've seen staff supporting each other, students looking out for their peers, and a genuine sense of connection across the Primary School.
I've also noticed how proud people are of this school. Whether I'm chatting with a student, a staff member or a parent, there is a clear sense that people care deeply about this place and want the best for one another.
In education, there's often a temptation for new leaders to arrive focused on what needs to change. Right now, my focus is much simpler. I'm paying attention. I'm listening. I'm learning. And I'm appreciating the many things that are already working so well.
Finally, thank you for all you do. The support, care and encouragement you provide your children each day make a significant difference and help create the strong sense of community that I have already come to appreciate at St Mark's.
Friendology
During Term 2, students learnt about Friendology and began developing skills to increase confidence and reduce conflict in their friendships. This term, parents are encouraged to explore this program further at home with your child. It is encouraged that discussions are explored at home about navigating Friendships Fires and increasing the common language used.
