Junior School Bulletin - Term 3, Week 1

A message from the Head of Primary

Dear Families

Welcome back to the start of Term 3. I hope you were all able to have a wonderful and restful break over the last three weeks. I'd also like to extend a warm welcome to all families new to the school. Today, four new families have joined the St Mark's community, and we look forward to getting to know you in the weeks ahead.

This week also marks my start as Head of Primary, and I am delighted to be joining the community.

Over the past two weeks, I have spent time at the school during the holiday break, meeting staff, learning about the Primary School and beginning to understand what makes this such a special place. While students have only returned today, I have already been struck by the professionalism, care and commitment of the staff, and the pride they have in both the school and the students they serve.

This morning, it was wonderful to finally welcome students back to campus. Throughout the morning, I was greeted with countless smiles, waves and enthusiastic "good mornings". Many students were also keen to introduce themselves, tell me about their holidays, and make sure I knew my way around. Their warmth, confidence and sense of belonging have made my first day a very enjoyable one.

Over the coming weeks, I look forward to getting to know the students, staff and families of St Mark's and developing a deeper understanding of the culture, traditions and values that are important to our community.

Thank you for the warm welcome I have already received. If you see me around the school, please don't hesitate to introduce yourself and say hello. I would welcome the opportunity to meet families and look forward to getting to know many of you over the weeks and months ahead.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, it is important that play occurs only when appropriate supervision is available. Staff supervision is provided between 8:15am and 3:15pm. As such, all playgrounds and oval areas are out of bounds outside these hours.

Before School
This morning, a number of students arrived at school before 8:15am. Unless students are participating in a supervised before-school activity, they should not be on campus before this time.

We ask families to ensure that students arrive from 8:15am onwards, allowing them to be appropriately supervised as they begin their school day.

After School
Please note that all playground equipment and oval areas are also out of bounds after school.

To support families with after-school collection, teacher supervision is available in the following locations:

• PAC Drive Through
• Year 2/3 Gate Kiss 'n' Drive
• Inside the Library

Students who are waiting to be collected should remain in one of these supervised areas.

The safety and wellbeing of our students is always our highest priority. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your children and thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe environment before and after school.

All Old Scholars are invited to attend the 2026 Annual General Meeting at 7pm on Tuesday, 18 August, in the SAC Staffroom.

Drinks and nibbles will be served.

Parent Commitment Hours can be claimed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

All positions will be declared vacant, and nominations are called for a new Committee. All current members of the Association are encouraged to attend the AGM, and any member may nominate to join the committee.

• Nominations can be submitted to osa@stmarks.wa.edu.au by Friday 14 August. Nominations can also be taken from the floor at the AGM.
• Any members who are not able to attend may select a proxy to vote on their behalf at the AGM. Completed proxy forms should be emailed to osa@stmarks.wa.edu.au by Friday 14 August.

The annual St Mark's Art Show is coming up, and we need your help!

As we head into Term 3, it's a great time to tick off those Parent Commitment Hours.

If you love art, enjoy working behind the scenes, and would like a sneak peek as the exhibition comes together, we'd love to have you on the team. No experience is necessary.

We have a variety of roles available from Monday 5 October to Sunday 11 October, with the main Art Show event taking place on Friday 9 October 2026. Volunteer opportunities include pre-event setup, hanging artwork, creating and styling displays, signage, ticketing, food and drink service, cleaning, floor support, and assisting with the exhibition over the weekend.

MLFC is delighted to be back & hope your child can attend!

The program has been running on Thursday’s each term since 2017 and is a wonderful way for your child to start their school day. Mark is a former professional footballer having played in England, Scotland, USA and with Perth Glory.

The MLFC Team love coaching children & will provide an environment that is fun, energetic & welcoming to all.

Children from PP to Yr6 can attend & will be grouped according to their age.

Dates Friday 7 August to Thursday 11 September

Time 7.30am-8.30am

Cost $139 for 6 weeks

The MLFC coaches can take the children in PP, Yr1 & Yr 2 to class after the session. Simply let Mark know when you register.

Time to get your game face on! The POSTMEN are back for the annual Games Day. A fantastic afternoon for fathers and father figures to come along with their kids and enjoy a range of different and interesting board games.

Helpers will be there on each table to make it easy to pick up the rules and enjoy the games and we'll round the afternoon off with pizzas for an early simple dinner.

Thanks to Adam from boardgamesdirect.com.au for bringing the games for us to play with and enjoy on the day - if you find something you really like, you'll also be able to place an order with him to get your very own copy for home.

• Where: St Mark's Ken Fairfield Hall – the only place legends gather!

It's half game show, half party, and 100% bogan fun. Expect hilarious bingo calls, epic air guitar contests, and dancefloor-worthy rock anthems blasting between rounds. Then, when the bingo wraps up, the DJ will keep the good times rolling with all the classic 80's rock tunes.
