Welcome to the first edition of the Career Compass for Term 2!
This publication helps our students, families, and community stay connected to the ever-changing world of careers, pathways, and opportunities. Each edition will bring you timely updates, useful resources, links and industry insights to help guide informed decision‑making and build career curiosity for your future.
This is the time of the year where all Universities open their campus and host the their Annual Open Day. This is the perfect chance to explore the campus, speak to lecturers and students, tour facilities, and learn about courses and entry pathways.
The Engineering Showcase Evening at Joondalup campus begin with light refreshments at 4:30 PM, followed by a presentation at 5:00 PM.
Afterwards, you will tour the state-of-the-art engineering facilities. You’ll also hear from current students and alumni who will share their experiences at ECU and discuss their smooth transition into exciting industry roles. Plus, you’ll have the chance to engage with our academic staff.

Curtin University hosted a medical presentation on campus at St Mark's last week. They have kindly shared some resources for students who are wanting to apply for Curtin University in 2027.
The demand for electricians is going to double as solar, wind, hydrogen and battery power are rolled out.

North Metropolitan TAFE
College of Electrical Training
The College of Electrical Training is now the biggest trainer of apprentice electricians in WA. They have a maths quiz as part of the application, and the CET course is also highly competitive.
South Metropolitan TAFE Defence Industry Electricians
The Defence Industry Pathways Program (DIPP) has been offered to senior school VETDSS students over the past year.
The DIPP is a 12-month paid traineeship which gives trainees exposure to various sectors of the defence industry (e.g. manufacturing and engineering, computing and logistics) and includes 3 X 12-week work placements with defence industry employers. It does not provide a direct entry into the electrical trade. However, the opportunity for DIPP participants to complete work-placements and demonstrate their work-ethic and aptitude can put them in a good position when Defence Industry employers advertise electrical apprenticeships.

You DO NOT have to enlist in the defence forces to work in the defence industry. The defence industry is made up of businesses that supply goods and services to the army, navy and air force.

College of Electrical Training (CET) is excited to open applications for the Big Sister Electrical Program.

The GET Network is a ten-session program designed to support and inspire girls and non-binary students in Years 11 & 12 interested in exploring engineering. The program runs over Terms 2 & 3 at Curtin University on Saturday mornings, providing study support and opportunities to explore engineering through engaging workshops, mentors and study pathways.

The WA Mining Club have created some great opportunities to attend multi day field trips for high school students in Years 10-12 to get a first-hand experience in the mining industry. Students will visit some state-of-the-art resources and rub shoulders with mining veterans.

This popular hands‑on experience invites high school students onto the beautiful South Street campus to explore what university is really like for yourself.
