Could you tell us a little bit about your musical background?

My musical background started in the scholarship music program at Churchlands Senior High School where I performed in Symphonic Ensembles, and sung in choirs which toured Singapore, Hong Kong, and China in 1997. From there, I completed an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts at WAAPA in Classical Piano and completed a Bachelor of Education in Music. During this time I was part of the Australian Army Band as a percussionist, where I toured much of regional WA. I have also played keyboard in several local cover bands including Afterglo and Damien Cripps Band and have been part of many tribute bands for some of my favourite artists such as Queen, Tom Jones, Elvis, Neil Diamond and currently Dusty Springfield and Roy Orbison.

Why are you excited to work at St Mark’s?

As a parent of two boys in the Primary School, I am excited to start working at St Mark's as I have been involved with the community since completing my teaching practice for my Bachelor of Education in 2004. I have worked as an accompanist with several ensembles and ATAR students at St Mark's, and was fortunate enough to be invited on the 2005 St Mark's Singapore Tour, which was an amazing experience.

Where does your passion for music come from?

St Mark's has very much inspired my love for musical theatre, which is an area I feel very passionate about now. Being part of a musical production is always an exciting adventure and showcases the hard work of so many individuals, on and off stage, all working together towards a common goal. It is wonderful helping students to grow their confidence in expressing themselves and refine their performance abilities from the beginning to the end of an intensive run of several shows in front of a live audience. The first St Mark's production I was involved in was 'Zombie Prom' in 2004, and since then I have been fortunate to be invited to be part of 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' 'Beauty and the Beast,' and most recently 'the Addams Family.' My eldest son starred as Baloo in 'The Jungle Book,' last year and my youngest son loves being part of the Viva Ritmo choir. It brings me so much joy to see them perform and develop a love for music from an early age, as music has always been my direction in life.

I can't wait to become part of the amazing music team at St. Mark's, and look forward to the opportunity to help as many students as possible along their musical journey.

Thanks for sharing a little bit more about you David! We are so pleased to have you as part of the St Mark's community!
