Students and Families Explore Future Pathways

Last Tuesday evening, the Senior Academic Centre and Performing Arts Complex came alive as students and families gathered for St Mark's 2026 Careers and Pathways Expo.

Held in conjunction with the 2027 Year 11 and 12 Course Selection Information Sessions, the evening provided a valuable opportunity for students to begin exploring life beyond school while gaining practical advice about subject selection and future study pathways.

Representatives from universities, registered training organisations (RTOs), apprenticeship support networks, CareerLink and Curtin UniReady were on hand to answer questions and share insights into a wide range of post-school options. From university degrees and TAFE courses to apprenticeships and vocational training, students were able to explore pathways aligned with their interests, strengths and aspirations.

The Expo gave students and families the chance to have meaningful conversations with industry and education professionals, helping to bring future possibilities into sharper focus. For many students, it was an opportunity to discover pathways they may not have previously considered and gain a better understanding of the many options available after graduation.

Following the Expo, Year 10 and 11 families attended Course Selection Information Sessions, where they received guidance on subject choices, WACE requirements and the different pathways available through senior school. These sessions helped families understand how subject selections can support future career and study goals while ensuring students remain well-positioned for a range of opportunities.

It was also wonderful to see Year 9 and Year 12 families taking advantage of the evening. Whether looking ahead to future decisions or refining plans already in motion, families appreciated the chance to engage with experts and gather valuable information.

Our exhibitors were also exceptionally well looked after throughout the evening, enjoying a delicious spread of food and refreshments. A particular highlight was the selection of beautiful desserts prepared by Year 12 student Annabelle, owner of her own business, Belle's Bake. It was a fitting addition to the event, with Isabelle's entrepreneurial journey providing a real-life example of the many pathways and opportunities available to students beyond the classroom. What better way to celebrate a Careers and Pathways Expo than by showcasing one of our own student entrepreneurs?

A special thank you to our exhibitors for sharing their expertise and helping inspire the next generation, and to our staff who supported the evening's success. In particular, we thank our Head of Futures, Mrs Ella Pearce, whose leadership and organisation ensured the event provided meaningful opportunities for students and families to explore, question and plan with confidence.

As a school, we are committed to helping students navigate their future with purpose and clarity. Events such as the Careers and Pathways Expo play an important role in empowering young people to make informed decisions and take confident steps towards their future goals.
