Reef Reflections: Year 11 Coral Bay Camp

It doesn’t get much better than this! A definite standout of our Year 11 Marine and Maritime Studies course is the much-anticipated Coral Bay Camp — and this year, it absolutely lived up to the hype.

Recently, 53 eager students, along with a handful of equally enthusiastic staff members, packed their snorkels, loaded up on sunscreen, and set off north for what turned out to be the adventure of a lifetime.

Based at the Ningaloo Reef Adventure Campsite, students had the remarkable chance to take their classroom learning beyond the textbooks and immerse themselves — quite literally — in one of the world’s most spectacular marine environments.

Throughout the week, they:

  • Snorkelled with majestic whale sharks,

  • Glided through the water alongside graceful manta rays, and

  • Explored vibrant coral reefs bursting with marine life, from turtles to tiny reef fish.

It was a true deep dive into marine ecology, conservation, and real-world science — bringing to life everything they’ve studied in the classroom.

A huge thank you goes out to the dedicated staff who made this trip possible and to our fantastic students for embracing every moment with such curiosity and joy.
