Purple Bench Unveiled

Last week, our School community gathered for the unveiling and blessing of the Purple Bench, now thoughtfully located near the Chapel.

The ceremony was led by Bishop Hans Christiansen, who blessed the bench, with a reading by Father Des Smit. The occasion brought together parishioners from St Luke’s and St Mark’s Chapel, students, members of the Executive, and Member for Moore, Tom French.

The Purple Bench is part of a broader initiative to honour the lives lost to family and domestic violence and to raise awareness of this significant issue within our community. Across Australia, purple benches serve as a visible reminder of the impact of domestic violence, while also encouraging reflection, conversation, and support for those affected.

Often placed in public and community spaces, these benches not only commemorate victims but also help connect people to support services, reinforcing the message that help is available and that no one should face violence alone.

The unveiling of the Purple Bench is both a solemn and important milestone for our School, reflecting a shared commitment to compassion, awareness, and standing against domestic and family violence. Positioned near the Chapel, it provides a place for quiet reflection and reminds us all of the role we can play in fostering a safe and respectful community.
