Paap's Pirates Claim the Hoogenkamp Courage Cup

There was plenty of footy, friendship and St Mark’s spirit on the Secondary Oval last Friday as our Class of 2026 took to the field for the Hoogenkamp Memorial AFL Game, held in memory of much-loved St Mark’s Class of 2020 student, Kristian Hoogenkamp.

The annual game is an opportunity to remember Kristian’s courage, friendships and, of course, his great love of footy – while raising funds and awareness for Sock It To Sarcoma.

This year, Paap’s Pirates faced off against Payne’s Power, and it was a battle right to the final siren! In the end, Paap’s Pirates claimed the Hoogenkamp Courage Cup by just one goal, with Ethan R named Best on Ground.

Before the action got underway, Kristian’s cousin Jaxon delivered a stirring speech about Kristian, sharing memories of his love of the game and reminding the players that Kristian would undoubtedly have been there cheering them on.

There was plenty happening off the field too, with students enjoying ice cream and doughnuts, while the hotly contested half-time mascot race provided plenty of laughs!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our School and amazing wider community, just over $4,000 has been raised for Sock It To Sarcoma this year through the game, raffle and donations. A fantastic result for an organisation and cause that means so much to our school community.
