A Little Longer
Where has life after St Mark’s taken you? Were you certain about what career path you wanted to follow?
After finishing school, I went straight into university studying management and marketing. While I completed three years, I realised it wasn’t the right path for me and made the decision to step away. I moved into real estate, which led to an eight-year career as a Department Manager in Property Management. It was a role that taught me structure, leadership and people management, but also one of the most emotionally demanding periods of my career.
Seeking something more positive and expansive, I transitioned into travel with the Flight Centre Group, where I spent nine years. Within my first three months, I became a Store Manager after achieving top novice sales. Travel gave me invaluable experience in leadership, global exposure and a deep understanding of logistics, service and client care.
After having children, I found myself drawn back to my teenage passion for events. While still working in travel, I began styling children’s parties on weekends, which quickly grew into larger events and eventually weddings. It didn’t take long to realise I had found my calling. Since then, I have had the opportunity to design and deliver weddings and corporate events both locally and internationally.
During COVID, when the events industry came to a complete standstill, I chose to use the time intentionally. I studied Residential Drafting and Design, along with Interior Design, to expand my skill set and strengthen my creative direction. It reinforced my adaptability and the importance of evolving, even in uncertain times.
That journey ultimately led to the creation of Modern Romance Proposals in 2021, followed by the expansion into travel, allowing me to bring together everything I had built over the years design, logistics, leadership and experience creation.
Looking back, every step has played a role in shaping where I am today. It has been a journey of growth, and one I wouldn’t change for a moment.
How do you think St Mark’s prepared you for life after school?
Looking back, I remember often questioning when I would ever use certain things I was learning. At the time, it didn’t always feel relevant. But what I’ve come to realise is that the real lesson wasn’t in the subject matter itself, it was in the discipline, resilience and ability to keep going even when something felt challenging or unclear.
St Mark’s helped build that mindset early. It taught me not to give up, to work through things, and to stay committed even when I didn’t immediately see the purpose. Those are the skills that have stayed with me and have been far more valuable in life and business than any single subject.
What is your fondest memory of your time at St Mark’s?
Being on the committee for the school ball and working behind the scenes painting and making props for the school productions each year.
What does it mean to you now to give back and stay connected as an Old Scholar?
It’s about staying connected to the place that helped shape my early direction and values. Giving back is my way of supporting future students, showing them what’s possible and being part of that continued journey.
What does the day-to-day look like on your job?
My day usually starts with a double espresso and a quick scan of emails, prioritising anything urgent across the different time zones and setting direction for the day ahead. By 9am, we’re in our team meeting, aligning on projects, problem-solving and keeping everything moving at pace.
From there, it’s fast-paced and constantly evolving. I move between client meetings, design direction, supplier coordination and on-site work, often across multiple locations at once. At this level, it’s about making decisions quickly, leading the team and ensuring every detail comes together, no matter where in the world the event is taking place.
You now lead a multi-brand experiential group. How do each of your businesses differ, and how do they work together?
Each brand within the group serves a distinct purpose, but they are all connected by the same philosophy of creating considered, high-end experiences. Vicky Rahmic Weddings & Events focuses on design-led celebrations and weddings, Modern Romance Proposals specialises in curated, intimate proposal experiences.
What makes it powerful is how they work together. Rather than clients sourcing multiple providers, we create a natural progression across life’s milestones from the proposal through to the wedding and beyond. This builds trust, deepens our understanding of each client, and allows us to deliver elevated experiences at every stage.
Vicky Rahmic Weddings & Events has earned major recognition, including Western Australia Wedding Planner of the Year 2025 what did that moment mean to you?
It was a moment of acknowledgement for the years of hard work, dedication and perseverance behind the scenes. Building a business at this level takes consistency, resilience and an unwavering commitment long before anyone else sees it. To be recognised in that way reinforced that what I’ve built is not only valued by my clients, but respected within the industry. It was a proud moment, but also a reminder to continue raising the standard and pushing forward.
More recently, being invited to attend the DWP Congress alongside some of the world’s leading wedding planners has been another defining milestone, placing my work within a global context and reinforcing the direction I’m continuing to move towards.
What inspired you to expand into proposals, travel, and ultra-luxury concierge services?
There was a clear gap in the market for truly indulgent, experience-led events in Perth. I’ve always been drawn to moments that feel rare and not easily accessible, and I saw an opportunity to create that for my clients. Expanding into proposals, travel and ultra-luxury concierge services was a natural evolution, allowing me to design experiences that go beyond a single event and instead shape how people celebrate, connect and create memories across every stage of life.
What have been some of the biggest challenges along the way, and how have they shaped you as a business owner?
One of the biggest challenges has been having to figure everything out myself. Building something from the ground up means there isn’t always a clear path, and you often have to make decisions without having all the answers. There have That process has shaped me into a more resilient and resourceful business owner. It’s taught me to trust my judgement, adapt quickly and back myself, even in uncertain situations.
Is there a lesson you learned early on that you still rely on today?
My Mum would say Education is key to everything. Once you understand that learning never really stops, you start to see opportunities everywhere and realise there is always a way forward.
What advice would you give to current St Mark’s students who dream of building something of their own?
Don’t feel like you need to have everything figured out right now. It’s more important to be present in the stage you’re in and take the time to understand who you are and what your passions are.
Your path will evolve, and that’s part of the process. Its the journey that makes life exciting. Stay open, keep learning, and trust that clarity comes through experience, not by having all the answers from the beginning.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
I don’t have one specific person that inspires me. However Im drawn to people’s individual stories, understanding the journey behind what they’ve built and how they’ve created something of their own.
It’s a constant reminder that there isn’t a single path, and growth comes from continuing to evolve and constantly moving forward.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Being invited to the Destination Wedding Planners Congress is something I’m incredibly proud of. It represents a level I had always aspired to reach, and to now be in the same room as some of the world’s leading planners is both humbling and validating.
It reflects how far I’ve come, and at the same time, it continues to push me to grow, evolve and expand my work on a global scale.
What’s next for you and your brands? Are there any exciting plans on the horizon?
Modern Romance Proposals is entering a strong growth phase, with plans to expand into experience-led date nights for couples in Perth over the next 12 months. It’s a natural extension of what we already do, creating memorable moments beyond just the proposal itself.
In terms of weddings, we’re continuing to refine and elevate the experience for our clients.
