Tell us about your business – what do you do and what inspired you to start it?
What started as a chance to learn something new quickly turned into a small business after one fun request: a custom Hangover Board. That first piece sparked something bigger, and from there, Red Stag Creations began to take shape.
Based locally in Perth, Western Australia, I handcraft a wide range of wooden products — from unique home décor and practical everyday pieces to personalised gifts and custom commissions.
Whether you're after a rustic centrepiece, a custom-made shelf, or something totally one-of-a-kind, I work closely with you to bring your ideas to life.
Every item is thoughtfully made, with an emphasis on quality craftsmanship and the natural character of the wood. No shortcuts, no mass production — just real work, real materials, and real pride in every project.
Can you share a key moment or breakthrough that helped shape your journey?
My journey into woodworking began when I joined a local Men's Shed — a place that not only introduced me to the craft but also sparked a genuine passion which continues to grow. I had little experience when I first joined, but I quickly found myself immersed in an environment full of generous, skilled individuals who were more than happy to share what they knew.
Being surrounded by people from all walks of life — each with different backgrounds, knowledge, and approaches to woodworking — gave me a solid foundation to build on. Their willingness to teach and encourage allowed me to experiment freely, ask questions, and learn by doing. It wasn’t long before I gained the confidence to try new tools, attempt more complex techniques, and push my creativity further.
That collaborative atmosphere played a huge role in helping me find my own rhythm and style. What started as simple curiosity soon turned into something much more meaningful: an appreciation for craftsmanship, the joy of working with my hands, and the satisfaction of creating something from scratch. Now, woodworking isn’t just a hobby — it’s a passion that continues to evolve with every new project I take on.
What sets your business apart from others in your industry?
What sets the business apart is the combination of craftsmanship, quality materials, and a deep respect for the natural beauty of timber. Every piece I create is carefully handcrafted – not mass-produced – with attention to detail and a focus on longevity.
Beyond the product, I pride myself on personal service. I love to collaborate with customers, taking the time to understand what they’re envisioning and making sure every piece I deliver feels special and one of a kind.
What’s one piece of advice that’s really stuck with you throughout your business journey?
Sometimes you just have to go for it!
You can always learn more, gain more experience, or be in a better position, but sometimes you just need to take that first step —a leap of faith —believe in yourself, and just get your vision out there.
