Old Scholar Business Shout-Out - Blues and Greens
Welcome to our segment, Old Scholars Business Shout-Out – where we shine a spotlight on the incredible ventures run by our former students! From start-ups to side hustles and everything in between, this series is all about celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit of the St Mark’s alumni community and encouraging everyone to support local, support each other, and stay connected.
We’re shining the spotlight this month on Old Scholar Harry Quayle (Class of 2019), the founder of Blues & Greens—a mentoring program changing the lives of teenage boys across Australia. What started as Harry’s bold vision to provide connection and guidance for young men who often fall through the cracks has now grown into a national team of over 25 mentors working with more than 150 boys. Inspired by the belief that every boy deserves a fair shot—regardless of tough family dynamics, trauma, or a lack of role models—Blues & Greens steps in as the “big brother” many never had, equipping them with the tools, confidence, and drive to truly thrive.
- Tell us about your business – what do you do and what inspired you to start it?
My business is called Blues & Greens.
We mentor teenage boys to help them become happier, more confident, and more driven, giving them the connection and guidance they often don't get anywhere else. We’re now a national team of 25+ mentors working with over 150 boys across Australia.
The inspiration came from a number of things, but the most significant was the number of boys growing up in environments that dim their light before they’ve had a chance to shine. Trauma, tough family dynamics, no positive male role models … not every kid gets a fair shot. So we step in as the big brother they never had. Our role is guiding them with honesty, relatability, and heart. Really, it's about changing the narrative for boys who were never taught how to talk, feel, or dream. Boys who don’t quite click at school, who don’t want more therapy, but just want a genuine connection and to be equipped with genuine skills. - What challenges did you face when launching your own business, and how did you overcome them?
Too many to count, but the loudest one was the noise. The noise of judgment when you post the first post on Instagram. The noise of criticism when you quit your corporate “stable” job. People told me I was crazy (and probably still think it, haha) … but you've got to have a sense of crazy. Crazy, delusional beliefs.
People would have sent my videos into group chats. Laughed. Was told to “get a real job.” But without a clear-cut answer, I cut out the noise, tightened my circle, and kept backing myself in, and listening to that voice inside me, even when it felt delusional. That self-belief was the only thing I had early on, and it was more than enough, because more often than not, you know better than anyone else when something feels right. When you set goals that sound unrealistic, you give yourself something worth chasing. - What sets your business apart from others in your industry?
We’re not therapists. Not counsellors. And that’s intentional.
Every single mentor is under 26 and comes from real, relatable backgrounds, from AFL players to video game coders. We match boys with someone who gets them. Someone who’s walked a similar path, found their way through, and can now help guide the next guy behind them. We’re not here to fix kids or tell them what to do, but rather, we’re here to see them and pass on all the things we wish we knew, and we wish we were told when we were a teen, lost in the noise of the world. - What’s one piece of advice that’s really stuck with you throughout your business journey?
You live in your body 24/7, 365 days a year, for the rest of your life, so make the decisions that you can live with. Build the life you want to live, because no one else will have to live with your decisions. I’d prefer to be 100 years old on my deathbed, knowing that I chased my dreams, my passions and kicked down doors that I wanted to know what was behind, rather than live out someone else’s dream, and follow the next guy in line. - Do you have a special offer, product, or service you'd love our Old Scholars' community to know about?
Any families in the St Mark’s community who enrol their son in our program, I’ll sweeten the program with some exclusive bonuses and access to extra support. Just reach out and mention the school, and we’ll take care of the rest.
