Griffin's Tales - Sand everywhere!
In 1986, St Mark’s opened its gates to 240 students — and quite literally, we were located in a sand pit.
There were a few buildings, plenty of vision, and a whole lot of sand underfoot. No Performing Arts Complex. No Chapel. No Senior Academic Centre. Just a passionate Foundation Principal, a committed Council and P&F, and a community determined to build something special from the ground up.
Fast forward to 2026, as we celebrate 40 years, and the transformation is extraordinary.
From those sandy beginnings, our campus has grown to include:
- A purpose-built Library and Information Centre
- The Barbara Godwin Performing Arts Complex
- The Chapel of St Mark and St Luke
- A dedicated Primary Campus and Early Learning Centre
- The Alan Cadby Senior Academic Centre
- The Len King Sports Pavilion and extensive sporting facilities
- Newly named spaces embracing local Nyungar culture
- And the first stage of our Future to 50 Masterplan is now underway
What began as a small school carved out of sand has grown into a thriving, dynamic learning environment — while still holding firmly to the spirit and values that shaped those very first days.
Forty years on, we’re not just bigger in size. We’re richer in history, stronger in community, and incredibly excited for what’s still to come.
From sand pit to 40 years strong — what a journey.
