From Classroom Ideas to National Conversations

Last week, a group of St Mark’s Year 9 Places & Spaces students stepped onto the national stage as the only school invited to attend and present at the 2026 Learning Environments Australia UNLEASH Conference.

Held annually, the UNLEASH Conference brings together leading educators, designers, architects, innovators and industry experts to explore how design, technology, community and creativity can transform the spaces where we learn, connect and grow.

Representing St Mark’s, our students shared the innovative learning space designs they have been developing throughout the semester as part of the new Year 9 Places & Spaces elective. Students also had the opportunity to engage in conversations with industry leaders and contribute to panel discussions focused on the future of learning environments.

Throughout the semester, students have worked closely with a range of industry professionals, gaining valuable insights into the design and purpose of the spaces in which we live, learn and grow. Their participation in the conference highlighted not only the quality of their ideas, but also the importance of real-world learning experiences.

The Places & Spaces elective was introduced this year as part of St Mark’s revamped Year 9 and 10 curriculum, designed to complement traditional MESH subjects with hands-on, future-focused learning opportunities. The subject encourages students to think critically, collaborate creatively and engage with industry beyond the classroom.

Being selected as the only school to present at the conference was an incredible opportunity for our students and a fantastic reflection of the innovative learning taking place at St Mark’s.

Congratulations to all students involved on representing St Mark’s so exceptionally well.
