ELC Bulletin - Term 2, Week 7

Using out St Mark's Values Lions and the 'Hug' series of books, the ELC children are going to further develop their social and emotional learning skills through new stories, games and activities focused on feelings.

The hug series of books was developed by the term at 'Wonderful Me'. Wonderful me have developed a program to support the ever-growing number of children suffering high levels of anxiety and a range of emotions that are impacting them across all areas of their life.

We are using elements of the program to provide our ELC children with strong social and emotional support to help them develop a healthy relationship with their emotions, themselves and each other. In Term 3, we will spend time revising our 'WorryWoo' characters, also from Wonderful Me.

In the remaining weeks of this term, our aim is for children to

• identify and describe the emotions of people who are happy, sad, excited, tired, angry, scared or confused and more...
• identify and describe emotional responses people may experience in different situations
• practise personal and social skills to interact positively with others
• recall and share emotional responses to different situations and represent this in a variety of ways
• learn and use appropriate language and actions to communicate feelings in different situations
• discuss connections between feelings, body reactions and body language

I will be taking some personal leave for Weeks 8 and 9 of this term. Mrs Kate Logan will be taking on the role of Acting Deputy Head of Primary, Early Learning, in my absence. The Pre-Primary Logan class will continue to have the consistency of Miss McIntyre, Mrs O'Donoghue and Miss Wells along with our regular relief teachers Mrs Ellis and Miss Barbas. Mrs Logan will continue to be in the ELC and will respond to any urgent emails and matters to do with the class.

I look forward to seeing everyone back after the school holiday at the beginning of Term 3.

  Paper copies of Government forms were sent home to Kindergarten families at the start of the year for parents to complete and return. Thank you, completed forms have now been received for all participating students.
  
  
• KINDY & PRE-PRIMARY PARENT/TEACHER MEETINGS - UPDATED 4.6.25
  Teachers will provide details for bookings via SEESAW. Apologies for previous incorrect communication that there will not be any Pre-Primary parent/teacher meetings this term.
  
  
• PP & Y1 HOUSE ACTIVITIES - Friday 27 June
  Pre-Primary and Year 1 students will participate in various activities in House Groups. House shirts will need to be worn on this day.
  
  
• SEMESTER 1 SCHOOL REPORTS
  Primary (PP-Y5) Semester 1 Reports will be made available to parents via SEQTA at the end of the day on Friday 27 June.
  (Kindergarten students will only receive formal reports at the end of Semester 2.)

  Parents are reminded that we have a three-week break at the end of Term 2.

As we will be having a three week holiday at the end of Term 2, we would love to encourage our children to continue reading. The Primary School Library will be open on Wednesday 9 July from 11am until 1pm for children to come in and change their books over the holidays. We would love to see lots of young readers borrow lots of books. Happy reading!

We’d like to take a moment to remind all families about the importance of keeping children at home when they are unwell, especially when they have a fever or contagious symptoms.

Recently, we’ve had instances where parents have requested their children be allowed to remain at school despite having a fever. For the health and safety of all our students, it is essential that if your child is showing signs of illness, particularly a fever, they must be kept at home and arrangements should be made for their prompt collection if they are already at school.

Additionally, we would like to remind all families that if your child has experienced gastro symptoms, they should stay at home for a minimum of 24 hours after the last bout of symptoms to prevent spreading the illness to others.

We truly appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that our school remains a safe and healthy environment for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Health Centre Team

The annual St Mark's Busy Bee is scheduled for 14 June - 8.30am to 11.30am. This event is a great opportunity to bring our community together to support the School and will be followed by a sausage sizzle.

The focus for this event will be on mulching, building a path and a fence to support some pending trees planting and landscaping at the School. We will also be completing some general cleaning of the grounds and lockers.

Please bring your own tools on the day, including:

• wheelbarrows
• shovels, forks and spades
• sponges, buckets and squeegees.

Don't forget to bring gloves, hats and water bottles.

It would be great to see as many of our community members attending on the day.

Parent commitment hours are available for each family that attends and food and drink donations.

P&F Committee

We are calling a Special General Meeting to be held on Tuesday 24 June at 7pm in the PAC. The purpose of the SGM is to consider and vote on unincorporating the P&F.

Your attendance and participation are highly valued, and we encourage all members of the School community to attend.

Family Connect will be meeting this term to make thank you gifts for the staff. All families are welcome to participate.

Whether you're a current St Mark’s family, have little ones not yet at school, or even if you’re simply looking to connect with other local families, you’re invited to come along. We especially welcome families whose Kindy classes aren't in session on Fridays – it’s a great way to stay connected with the school community.

Little Lions is proudly run in partnership with Playgroup WA, ensuring a quality experience for families. And while our Old Scholars' Association hosts it, you don’t need to be a former student to attend – everyone is welcome!
