Week 1
Dear Families
A Special Start to Term 4
Welcome back to Term 4. I hope all our families enjoyed a wonderful break and that students have returned refreshed and ready for what promises to be a very full final term.
The term certainly kicked off with plenty of excitement when we welcomed back a rather famous Old Scholar, Oscar Allen. Fresh from his grand final victory, the former West Coast Eagles player and now Brisbane Lion returned to St Mark’s to speak with our students about his journey and the role our school played in shaping the person he has become.
Our students were captivated as Oscar shared his experiences, answered their many questions and, of course, showed off his 2026 Premiership medal. He was incredibly generous with his time, signing autographs and speaking with students after the presentation. He even popped into a Kindy class while they were visiting the Library, creating a very special and unexpected moment for some of our youngest students.
It was a very special way to begin the term and a wonderful reminder of the lasting connection our Old Scholars have with St Mark’s. Thank you to Oscar for returning to share such an exciting moment with our community.
Smart Watches
Recently, we have had a small number of instances where parents have contacted their child through a smartwatch during the school day.
We understand that smartwatches can be a useful way for families to stay connected with their children outside school hours. At school, however, it is important that students are able to focus on their learning without receiving calls or messages.
Any smartwatch with phone or messaging capabilities must therefore remain in Aeroplane Mode during school hours. We also ask that parents do not contact their child directly through these devices while they are at school.
If something important needs to be communicated, please contact Primary Reception and we will ensure the message reaches your child.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Kind regards
Andrew Johnston
