Welcome to Term 2
Early Learning Centre Newsletter – Term 2
Dear Families,
Welcome back to the ELC for Term 2. I hope you all enjoyed a restful break from the routines of school and were able to spend some quality time with your children.
It has been wonderful to see how quickly the children have settled back into their classroom routines. They have returned full of energy and enthusiasm, sharing many lovely stories from their holiday experiences.
We have an exciting and engaging term ahead. Last week, our Pre-Primary and Year 1 children attended the Primary ANZAC Service, proudly wearing the poppies they created in class. It was a meaningful way for them to participate in this important commemoration.
St Mark’s Day – 40th Birthday Celebration
This Friday, we will celebrate a very special St Mark’s Day as our school marks its 40th birthday. All Pre-Primary and Year 1 children are asked to wear their HOUSE shirt on this day. To ensure shirts are fresh for Friday, Year 1 students may wear their regular striped polo on Thursday.
ELC St Mark’s Day Schedule:
- 9:00am – Kindy Turtles, Pre-Primary and Year 1 students attend the whole school St Mark’s Day Service
- 10:00–10:15am (approx.) – Pre-Primary and Year 1 students participate in a mini Cross Country run on the secondary oval
- This event focuses on participation and resilience rather than competition
- Parents are warmly invited to watch from the marked spectator area on the eastern side of the oval
- 10:45am (approx.) – Children return to the ELC for a special treat (Streets Calippo Mini Raspberry & Pineapple Ice Block)
- Parents are welcome to walk back with their child and say goodbye at the ELC gate
For the remainder of the day, children will stay with their class and enjoy a range of special activities, including:
- HOUSE paper chain making
- Creating a St Mark’s Seeking Truth & Wisdom bag
- Learning about our school motto and values
- Drawing a griffin (winged lion)
- Learning about Saint Mark
- Listening to the school song
Health & Safety
A reminder of a few important practices to help keep our community safe and well:
- Playing on playground equipment before and after school is not encouraged
- Please keep your child at home if they are unwell or showing signs of illness, and collect them promptly if they become unwell during the day
- Any changes to collection arrangements or drive-through must be made before 2:30pm
Uniform
As the weather cools, children may wear the ELC tracksuit (top and pants). We recommend wearing shorts underneath, as the days can still warm up. Alternatively, shorts may be worn on their own if preferred.
Please note:
- Full tracksuit is required on your child’s school photo day
- Hats are compulsory all year unless the UV rating is below 3
ELC Reception
Our wonderful Mrs Collie will be on Long Service Leave for Term 2. During this time, Mrs Brook De Ruyscher will be covering her role. On Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings, you may also see Mrs Valery Wells supporting in Reception.
Both Brook and Valery are experienced members of our wider school community, and we are very pleased to have them supporting the ELC. Please make them feel welcome.
Student Teachers
We are delighted to welcome Nikita Botha and Sara Kifayatullah from Edith Cowan University, who are completing their final professional teaching placements in Kindergarten and Pre-Primary Logan respectively.
They will also return in Term 3 to undertake a special project across all ELC classes. We encourage you to say hello and make them feel part of our community.
We look forward to a joyful and productive term ahead, filled with learning, growth, and connection.
Warm regards,
