A message from the Acting Head of Primary School
Celebrating a successful Term 1 and looking ahead to Term 2
As we come to the end of a very positive first term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a wonderful start to the year. I have been incredibly proud of the behaviour of our students, particularly the welcoming and inclusive manner they have demonstrated in the playground. It has been pleasing to see students looking out for one another, inviting others into games, and contributing to a strong sense of belonging across the school.
In our classrooms, there has been a clear and consistent focus on learning. When walking into any classroom, it is evident that students are engaged and curious. You can observe students listening attentively, contributing thoughtfully to discussions, working collaboratively with their peers, and remaining focused on their tasks. This on-task behaviour and enthusiasm for learning has set a strong foundation for the year ahead.
As we head into the break, I hope all families enjoy some well-earned rest and quality time together. Holidays provide a valuable opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and recharge.
At last week’s Year 2-5 assembly, I shared “Mr Pressley’s Top 15 Things to Do During the Holidays,” and I hope many of you get the chance to enjoy some of these experiences. Whether it’s going ice-skating, taking the bikes for a ride around the river, exploring the new Duncraig Adventure Hub, attending the Titanic exhibition, or strolling amongst the dinosaurs at Burswood, there are plenty of opportunities to make special family memories.
To support a smooth and successful return to school in Term 2, we encourage families to take a thoughtful approach in the days leading up to the first day back. Providing your child with the best chance for success can be as simple as re-establishing helpful routines. Around five days prior to the start of school, aim to return to usual sleep routines, reduce screen time, ensure your child is engaging in regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy diet, and include daily periods of extended reading. These small steps can make a significant difference in helping children feel settled, focused, and ready to learn from day one.
A reminder that when we return after the holidays, students will be expected to wear their winter uniform. If you have any questions or are unsure about requirements, please refer to the Uniform Handbook for guidance - this can be found here.
Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday break. I look forward to seeing all students refreshed and ready for Term 2.
Kind regards
Mark Pressley
