Our Executive Team

Interim Principal: Jennifer Bailey Smith BA (Hons), Grad Dip Ed, Ph D, Cert Ed (Gifted Ed.)

Dr Bailey Smith joined St Mark's in January 2015, after spending sixteen years at Perth College, where she was Head of English for six years, and had also held the position of Acting Deputy Principal – Teaching and Learning. Originally from Canada, Dr Bailey Smith was educated at St Hilda’s after she moved to Perth in 1981. She went on to study History and Literature at UWA before commencing her teaching career in 1998. Her interests lie in developing pedagogies and curricula that engage students’ creativity, and help them to develop the skills that will serve their needs in the Twenty First century. 

Assistant Principal (Academic): Gary Young B Ed, Post Grad Dip Ed Studies, G Dip Bus, MACE

Mr Young came from Mater Dei College in January 2007 to take up the newly created position of Head of Senior School. In 2015, he moved to the new position of Assistant Principal (Academic). He has a wide range of experience as an educator, having taught in Middle and Senior School settings in WA and England. He was educated at Edith Cowan University where he majored in Mathematics Education and later in Educational Leadership. He has always been keenly interested in using technology in improving teaching and learning, especially in mathematics.

Assistant Principal (Pastoral): Teresa Gastevich Dip T, BA, Grad Dip App Sc, Grad Cert TESOL, M App Sc, Master Counselling, ACA, MACE

Mrs Gastevich graduated from WACAE Teachers College in 1985, as a Primary Teacher and Speech and Drama specialist. She taught at Mullaloo Primary School prior to joining the team at St Mark’s as a relief teacher in the early days, before being appointed to look after the Library in 1990. Mrs Gastevich completed her Masters in Applied Science (Teacher Librarianship) and was Head of Library for 17 years. During that time, she also held the position of Head of Year on two occasions. She completed her Masters in Counselling in 2011. After five years serving as the Head of Student Services, she took up the role of Assistant Principal (Pastoral) in 2015. Her children, Michael and Johanna, are Old Scholars, and her grandsons, Reilly and Tristan attended the St Mark's Early Learning Centre.

Head of Middle School: Julia McGibbon-Briggs BA (Ed)

Mrs McGibbon-Briggs started teaching at St Mark’s in 2007 as a teacher of Society and Environment, with a specialisation in Geography. She had extensive experience in a variety of schools in both the private and public sector in WA. She was born in England and migrated to Australia in 1980, completing most of her schooling in Victoria and Western Australia. She completed her university qualifications at Edith Cowan University in 1995. She is passionate about Middle School education and has special interests in boys' education, students with special needs and building resilience in children. She has held a number of positions whilst at St Mark’s, including Head of Year, Head of House and Head of Humanities. She was appointed into her current role in 2014.

Head of Junior School: Bradley Gill BA (Ed), B Ed

Mr Bradley Gill joined St Mark's as the new Head of Junior School in January 2016, having been Director of Lower School at Hawken School in Cleveland, Ohio (USA) from 2010 to 2015. Prior to this, he taught and held significant leadership positions in schools in Dubai, Japan and Australia. Mr Gill was born in Perth and attended Guildford Grammar School. He is married to Susie and they have two children, Riley, a tertiary student, and Kelsey, who attends St Mark’s.

Head of Early Learning: Linda Sweet DipT (ECE)

Mrs Linda Sweet was appointed as the Head of Early Learning in May 2017, after joining St Mark’s in 2010 as a Kindergarten teacher.  Linda has grown up in Perth and has had many years teaching experience in a variety of Early Learning settings including Government Schools and Community Kindergartens in Perth and Victoria. She is passionate about building positive relationships between students, staff, parents and the community, ensuring that learning is connected to young children’s lives and interests. Linda has two adult sons who attended St Mark’s during their schooling years. They are both now  tertiary students.

Chaplain: Scott Rowland BA, Dip Ed, M Div, M Min

Rev. Rowland grew up in Sydney, studied at the University of Sydney and the University of New England. He worked in boys' boarding schools while studying and working in Christian University Ministry. Moving to Perth in 1995, Rev. Rowland taught geography and economics up to TEE level for a number of years before training for ordained Anglican ministry. He began working at St Mark’s teaching Christian Studies during his ordination training, before being appointed Chaplain in 2007. Scott is married to Jenny who is an engineer and they have two daughters, Laney and Hannah, both of whom attend St Mark’s.

Business Manager: Carolyn Gray BBus (Acc) CA

Mrs Gray was appointed as the School’s Business Manager in August 2016, after joining St Mark’s as the School Accountant in 2014.  Growing up in Melbourne, she graduated from Swinburne University, conveniently located across the road from the training ground of her beloved Hawks.  As a Chartered Accountant Carolyn has developed a broad range of Australian and international experience in both professional practice and commercial financial management through roles with Ernst & Young, Rio Tinto, Cable & Wireless (UK), Oyster Consulting and more recently her own accounting and taxation practice.  Carolyn and her husband Kevin have been part of the St Mark’s parent community since 2009 and have two children attending St Mark’s.
