Curriculum

The Early Learning Centre (ELC) aims to foster an environment that honours the development of the ‘whole child.’  Play and enquiry-based learning are at the core of teaching in the Early Learning Centre, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.  The social and emotional development of the students is held at least equal to, but oftentimes above, the cognitive development of the children.

The ELC follows the Early Years Learning Framework for Kindergarten, while Pre-Primary and Year 1 programs are based on the requirements of the Australian Curriculum. Teaching staff are well-supported by Education Assistants.

Students have access to specialist teachers for CAVE, Library, Music, Physical Education and World Language.  As part of the World Languages Program, Pre-Primary and Year 1 students participate in Chinese Mandarin lessons for one semester.  In the alternate semester, students participate in French lessons.

Facilities

The Early Learning Centre is a self-contained facility with its own classrooms, play spaces and amenities.  The play areas include sand and water play, a sensory garden, grassed open space, climbing frames, nature play areas and imaginative play spaces, as well as their own edible garden.
