Education, just like any other industry, does have its own jargon and sometimes, what makes sense to teaching staff may not translate as well for parents. The question for this week is...
Why does the School sometimes refer to Junior School and at other times to Primary School?
At St Mark's, we have four sub-schools: Early Learning, Junior School, Middle School and Senior School. When activities cross the subschools, we also may refer to them as either Primary or Secondary events. In general terms:
- Early Learning (Kindy to Year 1) +Junior School (Years 2 to 5) = Primary (Kindy to Year 5)
- Middle School (Years 6 to 8) + Senior School (Years 9 to 12) = Secondary (Year 6 to 12)
For some interschool events, such as the NIPPSA Sports Carnivals, the IPSHA Speakers' Challenge, Primary can include Year 6s.
