WHEELCHAIRS FOR KIDS
Wheelchairs For Kids (WFK) is an organisation whose mission is to manufacture and distribute wheelchairs to some of millions of severely disabled children all over the world (a project of the Rotary Club of Scarborough WA supported by Christian Brothers). Through the collection of aluminium ring pulls from aluminium cans, St Mark’s can help the WFK program; the ring pulls we collect will be sold as scrap metal and raise money for materials to make the wheelchairs. For every kilogram of ring pulls collected, 60 cents is given. For every $200 donated in support of the WFK program, a child gains a new wheelchair. Collection jars for ring pulls have been set up in all Junior School Classrooms.
SALVOS WINTER APPEAL
As COVID-19 continues to impact our community, we need to be compassionate and committed global citizens and look to how we can make a difference in our own small way. Families and students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items (canned goods/long-life boxed items and warmth items such as beanies, gloves, socks, blankets - good condition only, etc); items collected will be donated to our local Salvos branch at Heathridge to help those in need. Collection bins are located in the Year 4/5 Area.
COLLECTIONS BACK ON TRACK AFTER COVID-19
This year the Junior School with be working with the Salvation Army as part of our Learning Service Program. Over the course of the year representatives from the Salvation Army will be visiting the Junior School to work with our students on better understanding the support services available to people in need and to build empathy.
Last term, our goal was to create male hygiene packs to be distributed by selected students and families. Due to COVID-19 this initiative was put on hold but we would like to get it up and running again. We would like your support to collect items listed below to help our Global Citizenship Council so they may be dispersed on an immersion tour on Tuesday 23 June on the streets of Perth.
To help our Global Citizenship Council with the task of creating these male hygiene bags, we are asking for donations of the following items from our whole school community.
- Shaving cream
- Disposable razors
- Shampoo and Conditioner
Items can be taken to the Junior School Year 4/5 area where collection boxes will be available.
Thank you for your help with these projects.
