The Year 1 children have been working with the Year 8 Science Extension students to create a beautiful frog-friendly pond. We invite you to come and explore the area which is located in the north east corner of the Early Learning Centre grounds.
The students have named the area Kooboolong Boodja (meaning 'frog wet area' in Noongar language). At the moment, there are four Pygmy Perch in the pond. They will help to keep the pond healthy and eat mosquito larvae. Tadpoles will be introduced to our pond towards the end of August, when hatching commences.
If you have any plants, rocks or ornaments that you think may be suitable for us to add to this area, please contact Mrs Collie in the ELC Reception.
Please remember to supervise your children in the area, encouraging them to take care where they are stepping as the plants are trying to establish themselves.
A big thank you to Mr & Mrs Ann and Jim Edwards (grandparents of Sophie Coffin in the Kindy Turtles class) and Belinda Devenish (Kindergarten EA) for their dedication and passion in bringing this project to fruition.
