Planning for Success

For the second year in a row, St Mark's Business Management and Marketing students have taken out first and second place in Western Australia for the annual CPA Australia Plan Your Own Enterprise competition.  The national competition requires students to construct a business plan for an idea of their choosing. The plan must include discussion of concepts like marketing, staffing and basic financial planning.

The winning entry was produced by Matthew Lowndes and Samuel Colling in Year 10, for their concept 'Safe and Sound'. Their vision statement explains their idea:

Increased crime has led to the people of Perth feeling unsafe. Our vision at Safe and Sound is to keep the community safe using modern technology. Most Australians over the age of twelve own a mobile phone (particularly smartphone). Technology has enabled us to create an app to help combat this issue of fear and help the community and the people in it.

Second place went to Mischa Jones and Katie Knight in Year 10 for their concept 'Carpool 2 School'.

The goal for Carpool 2 School is to provide safe, efficient and secure transport for school aged children and teenagers to and from school. The business will serve the northern suburbs of Perth initially. As the business grows the idea will hopefully become national.

These students will be formally recognized at a ceremony held in conjunction with CPA Australia and the Business Educators of Western Australia later in the year.
