Jazz on Tour

Mon, November 20, 2017

Four jazz students from St Mark’s travelled over to Wangaratta, Victoria to take part in the Wangaratta Jazz Festival. Phoebe Jones, Toby Lorkin, Caleb Tilson and Kaila Jayatilake joined with students from five other ASC schools to perform at various venues over the weekend, including the Jazz Mass held in Holy Trinity Cathedral on the Sunday morning.

The students joined with professional jazz musicians Bridie King and the Gospel Belles to perform favourites such as “Oh When The Saints Go Marching In” to a packed house of over 1,000 people.

Director of Music, Pamela Grubb, who accompanied the students, was delighted at the strong bonds formed between the musicians from different ASC schools, and said that our students distinguished themselves through their strong work ethic, musically advanced playing and attention to expressive details, which was commented on by a number of other music teachers.

Our students also had the opportunity to hear some amazing performances during the Festival by internationally-acclaimed jazz musicians, including James Morrison, Katie Noonan and Spiderbait. We look forward to returning to the Wangaratta Jazz Festival in future years.
